WisdomTree and MoonPay Link Up to Broaden WTGXX Access and Back Stablecoin Reserves

Key points

  • WisdomTree and MoonPay have announced a strategic collaboration to expand U.S. investor access to WTGXX, a tokenised money market mutual fund, via MoonPay's platform and network of more than 35 million accounts.
  • MoonPay plans to use WTGXX as part of its stablecoin reserve management, introducing a regulated on-chain money market fund into a fintech's reserve stack.
  • WisdomTree is building a new access point leveraging MoonPay's blockchain technology, extending distribution beyond its existing broker-dealer, WisdomTree Securities, and into MoonPay's base of more than 1,700 partners.
  • The collaboration is described as a foundation for broader engagement, with both firms citing intentions to pursue additional tokenised fund opportunities including across global markets.
  • No live launch date, commercial terms, or specific regulatory approvals for the new access point were disclosed, leaving the arrangement at the planning and collaboration stage.

WisdomTree and MoonPay have announced a strategic collaboration centred on the WisdomTree Treasury Money Market Digital Fund (WTGXX), a tokenised money market mutual fund registered in the United States. The arrangement has two operative parts: WisdomTree is building an access point that uses MoonPay’s technology and platform to reach eligible U.S. investors beyond its existing broker-dealer channel, WisdomTree Securities; and MoonPay plans to hold WTGXX as part of its stablecoin reserve management. MoonPay’s network spans more than 35 million accounts and over 1,700 partners, giving the distribution play meaningful reach if the integration proceeds as described.

The announcement frames this as a foundation for broader engagement, with both parties citing intentions to explore additional tokenised fund opportunities including in global markets. Caroline D. Pham, CEO of MoonPay Institutional, connected the collaboration to what she described as rapid adoption of blockchain infrastructure and tokenisation of financial assets in 2025. Neither party has disclosed commercial terms, a live launch date, or confirmed regulatory clearances specific to the access point build, so the arrangement remains at the collaboration and planning stage.

For operators watching the tokenised fund space, the more structurally notable element may be the reserve-management angle: a fintech with a large retail payments footprint committing to hold a regulated, on-chain money market fund as stablecoin backing introduces a new demand vector for tokenised short-duration instruments. Whether that demand proves durable depends on MoonPay’s stablecoin ambitions and regulatory treatment of such reserves, neither of which the announcement specifies.
