Zodia Solutions links with TCS BaNCS to bring custody inside bank infrastructure

Key points

  • Zodia Solutions, a digital asset custody infrastructure spinout from Standard Chartered, has integrated with TCS BaNCS, the securities platform used by institutions including Citi and JP Morgan.
  • The integration deploys custody and execution within the bank's own environment, with the bank retaining private keys, the custodian relationship, and governance over its digital asset operations.
  • TCS BaNCS manages the full transaction lifecycle, covering order instruction, on-chain delivery, and reconciliation.
  • TCS BaNCS first added digital asset capabilities with Bitcoin Suisse in early 2023; PostFinance used the platform in February 2024 to become the first systemically important Swiss bank to offer retail crypto trading.
  • For the large pool of BaNCS-connected banks, the integration reduces the build cost of entering digital asset custody by allowing deployment through infrastructure they already operate.

Standard Chartered‘s digital asset custody spinout, Zodia Solutions, has completed an integration with TCS BaNCS, the securities platform used by major banks including Citi and JP Morgan. The connection gives BaNCS-connected institutions a path to offer crypto and tokenised asset services through their existing accounts and settlement infrastructure, without routing custody through an external provider.

The integration deploys a digital asset custody and execution layer within the bank’s own environment, meaning the institution retains its private keys, the custodian relationship, and full governance over its digital asset operations. TCS BaNCS then manages the transaction lifecycle end to end, from order instruction through to on-chain delivery and reconciliation.

The development sits within a longer trajectory for TCS in digital assets. The firm entered crypto in 2020 with a separate platform, Quartz Smart Solution for Crypto Services. BaNCS itself gained digital asset capabilities from early 2023, starting with Bitcoin Suisse, and PostFinance became the first systemically important Swiss bank to offer crypto trading to its retail customers via BaNCS in February 2024. The Zodia Solutions integration represents a further deepening of that stack, adding institutional-grade custody as a component banks can plug into their existing core infrastructure rather than build or source independently.
