Sixteen companies object to tokenised stock listings on OKXICE venue
Key points
- Sixteen companies have now objected to OKXICE tokenising their shares, up from one objection on 4 October and nine by 15 October, removing 17 of the original 63 planned symbols.
- OKXICE is a joint venture between Intercontinental Exchange and OKX, and plans to operate under the SEC's tokenised securities venue exemption issued in September 2025.
- The TSV exemption grants a five-year carve-out from exchange and alternative trading system rules for permissioned automated market maker pools trading tokenised US equities, with Regulation NMS disapplied.
- Blue-chip objectors filing between 15 and 19 October include Microsoft, Alphabet, Goldman Sachs, Qualcomm, Caterpillar, McDonald's, and Western Digital, following an initial wave of AI infrastructure firms.
- Crypto-native firms listed on the venue, including Coinbase, Robinhood, Circle, and Securitize, have not objected, while several large traditional names have also yet to file.
The number of companies opposing the tokenisation of their shares on OKXICE, the joint venture between Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) and cryptocurrency exchange OKX, has risen to sixteen, removing 17 of the original 63 symbols from the planned venue before it launches. A single objection was on record when OKXICE filed its formal notice on 4 October; that figure reached nine by 15 October before accelerating sharply through the following days.
OKXICE intends to operate under the Securities and Exchange Commission‘s tokenised securities venue (TSV) exemption issued in September, which grants a five-year carve-out from exchange and alternative trading system classification for venues running tokenised US equities through permissioned automated market maker pools, with Regulation NMS also disapplied. The exemption’s scope makes it a meaningful regulatory innovation, and the pace at which the objection list is growing suggests the corporate response to that experiment is only beginning.
The first wave of objectors centred on artificial intelligence infrastructure names, among them Cerebras, CoreWeave, Applied Digital, and Broadcom. Blue-chip objectors followed between 15 and 19 October: Microsoft, Alphabet, Goldman Sachs, Qualcomm, Caterpillar, McDonald’s, and Western Digital all filed in that window. Conspicuously absent from the objection list are the crypto-native names scheduled for the venue, including Coinbase, Robinhood, Circle, and Securitize, while traditional institutions such as JPMorgan, Walmart, Costco, and Eli Lilly have yet to file, though that may simply reflect administrative processing time rather than settled acceptance.
