DTCC adds Stellar as second public chain for tokenised custody assets
Key points
- DTCC will enable tokenised DTC assets on Stellar in the first half of 2027, the second public blockchain supported after the Canton Network.
- Neither supported chain is Ethereum-compatible, even though DTCC's own AppChain runs on EVM infrastructure.
- The service, following the SEC's December 2025 no-action letter, covers Russell 1000 constituents, major index ETFs, and U.S. Treasuries.
- Limited live transactions are planned for July 2026 with full launch in October; Stellar will not be available at launch.
- The no-action letter requires all supported chains to restrict token movements to registered wallets and let DTC force transfers or burn tokens to correct errors or address malfeasance.
The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation will enable tokenised DTC assets on Stellar in the first half of 2027, making it the second public blockchain the service supports after the Canton Network. Neither chain is Ethereum-compatible, even though DTCC’s own AppChain runs on EVM infrastructure.
The move extends the multi-chain strategy that followed the SEC‘s December 2025 no-action letter permitting DTC to tokenise custodied securities. The service covers Russell 1000 constituents, major index exchange-traded funds, and U.S. Treasuries. Limited live transactions are planned for July 2026, with full launch in October, but Stellar will not be available at launch.
Stellar handles tokens as native base-layer primitives rather than smart contracts, a structural difference that matters for compliance. The no-action letter requires all supported chains to restrict token movements to registered wallets and permit DTC to force transfers or burn tokens to correct errors or address malfeasance.
