Ant International and Bank of China HK Link Up on Cross-Border Payments and Tokenisation

Key points

  • Ant International and BOCHK announced a partnership on 20 August 2026 covering real-time treasury management, cross-border payments, AI, and distributed ledger technology.
  • Ant International's embedded finance unit Bettr will explore blockchain-based innovations for treasury and investment with BOCHK, though no live product has been announced.
  • The deal also encompasses Alipay+ for cross-border digital wallet and merchant services, and WorldFirst for global account services.
  • Ant International already holds tokenised deposit relationships with BNP Paribas, CIMB, Deutsche Bank, DBS, HSBC, JP Morgan, OCBC, Standard Chartered, and UBS, all integrated into its Ant Whale treasury management platform.
  • The company has more recently begun using tokenised money market funds to generate yield on its cash pools, indicating a broadening of its on-chain treasury toolkit beyond settlement-focused instruments.

Ant International and Bank of China Hong Kong (BOCHK) have announced a broad partnership spanning real-time treasury management, cross-border payments, artificial intelligence, and distributed ledger technology. Within the arrangement, Ant International’s embedded finance unit Bettr will work with BOCHK to explore blockchain-based applications for treasury and investment purposes. The deal also draws in Alipay+, Ant International’s cross-border digital wallet and merchant services platform, and WorldFirst, its global account service provider.

The tokenisation element is exploratory rather than operational, sitting alongside a much wider commercial relationship. What gives it weight is Ant International’s existing track record: the firm has been an early client for tokenised deposit programmes at BNP Paribas, CIMB, Deutsche Bank, DBS, HSBC, JP Morgan, OCBC, Standard Chartered, and UBS, integrating those instruments into its Ant Whale treasury management solution to move funds globally on a 24/7 basis. More recently it has extended that approach to tokenised money market funds as a yield-bearing store for cash pools.

The BOCHK partnership suggests Ant International is extending its tokenised treasury infrastructure into yet another banking relationship, this time anchored in Hong Kong. For operators watching the build-out of real-time, blockchain-enabled corporate treasury at scale, the pattern here is instructive: a single corporate treasury function now sits at the intersection of more than nine tokenised deposit relationships across global and regional banks, with yield-bearing instruments layering on top. Whether the BOCHK collaboration produces a tenth live tokenised deposit integration or something structurally different remains to be seen.
