Anchorpoint and Standard Chartered to launch HKD stablecoin HKDAP within weeks
Key points
- Anchorpoint Financial Technology, backed by Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong), HKT, and Animoca Brands, is expected to announce the launch of HKDAP, a Hong Kong dollar-pegged stablecoin, within the next two weeks.
- Anchorpoint received one of the HKMA's first two stablecoin issuer licences in April 2026, with HSBC holding the other, under rules requiring full reserve backing and segregated customer assets.
- Every HKDAP token will be backed one-to-one by high-quality Hong Kong dollar reserves held in segregated accounts, per HKMA requirements for fiat-referenced stablecoins.
- In May 2026, Anchorpoint, OSL Group, and PantherTrade completed a successful HKDAP transfer test on Ethereum's public mainnet using production-ready rather than sandbox infrastructure.
- HKDAP is planned to roll out via a business-to-business-to-consumer model before expanding to wider use, with Ethereum deployment intended to support interoperability across wallets, exchanges, and decentralised finance applications.
Anchorpoint Financial Technology and its backer Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) are expected to formally announce the issuance of HKDAP, a Hong Kong dollar-pegged stablecoin, within the next two weeks, according to local media citing market sources. Anchorpoint is a joint venture that also counts HKT and Animoca Brands among its backers, and it was one of only two entities to receive a stablecoin issuer licence from the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) in April, alongside HSBC.
The planned rollout follows a phased issuance schedule Anchorpoint had previously flagged for the second quarter of 2026 under Hong Kong's Stablecoins Ordinance. Each HKDAP token is structured to carry one-to-one backing by high-quality Hong Kong dollar reserves held in segregated accounts, in line with HKMA reserve and disclosure requirements for fiat-referenced stablecoins. The distribution model is intended to move through a business-to-business-to-consumer sequence before broader adoption.
A live Ethereum mainnet transfer test conducted in May, involving Anchorpoint, licensed digital asset platform OSL Group, and Futu Holdings-backed trading platform PantherTrade, demonstrated that HKDAP could be issued, transferred, and settled on public infrastructure rather than in a sandbox. A spokesperson from the trial described the exercise as validating both the technical architecture and the compliance framework ahead of commercial issuance. Anchorpoint has said Ethereum deployment is intended to enable interoperability with existing wallets, exchanges, and decentralised finance applications while preserving regulatory oversight under Hong Kong's licensing regime.
