ANZ

Commercial bank

ANZ (Australia and New Zealand Banking Group) is one of Australia's big-four banks and a participant in the country's bank-led tokenised-deposit pilot activity alongside CBA, Westpac, NAB and Macquarie. ANZ is one of 17 global banks in SWIFT's blockchain-based tokenised-deposit ledger, confirmed ready for initial use on 9 July 2026 after nine months of development, alongside HSBC, Citi, BNP Paribas, UBS, DBS, and Standard Chartered.

What it is

ANZ runs tokenisation activity across at least three threads: the SWIFT tokenised-deposit ledger pilot (real-time, 24/7 cross-border settlement including weekends, a departure from conventional banking settlement windows), a tokenised carbon credit pilot the bank has described as showing "tremendous growth," and real-world-asset transaction work with Chainlink.

Relevance to tokenisation

ANZ's SWIFT ledger participation puts it inside the same cross-border tokenised-deposit interoperability question that Hong Kong's Project Ensemble and Australia's Project Acacia are separately working through domestically; ANZ Managing Director for Transaction Banking Lisa Vasic has described the SWIFT initiative as building on the network's existing trust to enable real-time liquidity management for customers.
